Arizona Science Center via Valley Metro Rail

The Arizona Science Center is one of the best attractions for the whole family in Phoenix. You just can’t see it in one visit so you will want an easy way to return. The only downside is the location in downtown Phoenix. Let’s face it, parking and traffic can be crazy.

Sure it’s easy to drive there most the time. But sometimes you want something different. Here’s an excuse to try out the Valley Metro Rail. Maybe it‘s time for a fun new way to get there?

Take the stress off life and let somebody else drive. All you have to do is find a local train station then jump on a train. The Metro goes by the AZ Science Center and Phoenix Convention Center.

Think of the convenience, you get dropped off within a couple blocks then you can forget about parking. Park free at one of the many park-and-ride lots next to the Metro line. Even if you drive a car there and get your parking ticket validated at the Arizona Science Center, the price of the metro rail day pass is a good buy.

When you are done with your visit, walk south a block to pick up the return train if you live in Mesa. Why? Because the trains go with the flow of traffic on the one-way streets. In downtown Phoenix the metro rail gets split to flow with the one-way streets. So to get back to Mesa you have to go south a block to catch the return train.

What’s the closest drop off?

Here’s a tip, the closest drop off is by 3rd Street on E Jefferson St and E Washington St. Washington goes one-way and Jefferson goes the other way by the sports venues. The Museum is on Washington around 7th Street.

By the way if you are going to an event at the Convention Center, US Airways Center, or Chase Baseball Field, 3rd Street is your closest drop off.

No worries, if you get off too soon or too late then just get back on. Get a day pass and you can easily get off and on. Passes are available at the station vending machines.

How long does it take to get there?

From Mesa at the easternmost part of the line at Sycamore (near Dobson) and Main it could take about 45 minutes. Which isn’t bad at all compared with driving there. Add the time you drove to the park-and-ride and waited for a train. This time is well spent. You can look out the windows at the scenery, talk with your friends and family, and people-watch.
